I hated this book. And I know my rating says otherwise.
First off, it was nothing like what I expected it to be. I knew there was going to be a plot twist at the end but I did not expect it to be this screwed up. The book was too slow-paced and full of pointless descriptions and arguments that, turn out to be not-so-pointless after all.
The book was horrifyingly terrorizing, at least the last couple of chapters were. And before you start jumping to conclusions, No; this is not a horror story about ghosts and haunted houses. I’m not sure I can give any further details about it without giving anything away. But if you need a book that screws up your mind and makes you gasp and swear out loud when you reach the plot twist, then I suggest you pick this up ASAP.
The sole reason I gave this book a rating of 4 stars is because I believe that Lauren Oliver actually got the response she wanted from me. And I’m almost sure she didn’t write this twisted novel so it could be loved and adored by readers, because it definitely isn’t that kind of book.
New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver delivers a gripping story about two sisters inexorably altered by a terrible accident.
Dara and Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara’s beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged. When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it’s too late.
In this edgy and compelling novel, Lauren Oliver creates a world of intrigue, loss, and suspicion as two sisters search to find themselves, and each other.
