Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik Book Review

Hehe confession time
I didn’t know this book was a retelling until I was about halfway through. And I have never heard of “Rumpelstiltskin” until know. I don’t even know how to spell that. HOWEVER, that didn’t stop it from slipping into my “favorites” shelf.

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle Book Review

I don’t know if I can consider this as a second-chance romance, I think it would be an understatement. Besides, if someone tagged it as “second-chance romance” I personally wouldn’t even give this book a glance. I don’t know what this subgenre should be called but please SOMEONE MAKE THIS A NEW BOOK TROPE. First off let me just say; incredibly written, knee-slapping hilarious, and dare I say, swoony as heck. The pranks got to the point where they became so absurd it was hilarious. I loved how the author was generous with each of the characters, writing-wise. We had Naomi and Nicholas, who were so stubborn it was annoying at first. Then Deborah who was basically a pain in the ass (but I seriously loved how they ganged up on her at the end of the book)
Then the shift from the enemies-to-friends and then back to lovers… please, it was so precious.

Make Me Want by Katee Robert ARC Review

[I recieved a free advance review copy by Harlequin via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review]
My heart is soaring. This book was a perfect read for my hopeless romantic self.
Lucy works at a law firm and she’s got a position just under the CEO. She’s basically married to her job. For work-related purposes, she decides to contact her ex-husband’s (ex) best friend, also a headhunter, Gideon, to hunt her some suitors… Guys willing to marry her on such short notice. And Lucy asks Gideon for a ‘friends with benefits’ arrangement.
This is when shit goes down, obviously.
I love it when the two characters in this situation start catching feelings and realize that their relationship has more to it than just physical attraction.
This is a perfect read if you’re looking for something swoon-worthy with a couple of laughs and tears on the side.

Now That You Mention It by Kristan Higgins ARC Review

[I received a free advanced reviewer’s copy by Harlequin (HQN) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review]
I did not expect to cry like a baby all throughout this book, but I’m not the least bit embarrassed to say that I did. This is my first Kristan Higgins book, and it’s definitely not going to be my last. I don’t even know where to start…
Mrs Higgins tackles a ton of heavy topics in a beautiful manner. I’m not going to go into details but do expect lots of diversity (racial and sexual), topics dealing with bullying, abuse, mental health..
We were first introduced to Nora, a gastroenterologist, whose life was turned upside down after being hit by a car and encountering her boyfriend flirting with another doctor while she lay almost-dead on a gurney. I couldn’t with all the jokes.. Nora is such a lively and hilarious person, despite everything she’s been through. I spent half the time laughing out loud. Her patience, her sense of forgiveness and constantly seeing the best in others… She’s become my personal role model, honestly.
Boomer, the Dog of Dogs was my favorite character, hands-down. Tweety, may his soul rest in peace, had me laughing so hard, got to give the little guy some credit for that. That scene where he basically gets grilled was so hilarious, and yes I did feel guilty for laughing afterwards.
When I look back at Nora and Poe’s relationship transformation, it quite literally gets me all teared up (again). Nora decides to go back to her hometown, where (did I mention?) basically everyone hates her. Her determination to fix her relationship with her niece and her mother, and even her sister, was just incredible.
The way I see it, Nora walked into her hometown and basically turned it upside down; taking Poe in, recognizing Audrey’s disorder, practically taking over the clinic… Also, not to mention, falling in love with Sully *insert a GIF of me eternally and repeatedly swooning here*

Calling It by Jen Doyle Book Review

*I was generously provided with a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. That doesn’t affect my review in any way*
This book was incredibly swoon-worthy. It’s about a girl who grew up as the only girl in a family with over-protective brothers basically guarding her her whole life. She’s a huge baseball fan, and she’s obsessed with Nate Hawkins, a former legend basketball player turned one of the best baseball players in history. I related a lot to Dorie’s Nathan Hawkins obsession. I remember obsessing over some soccer players back in the old days. And you know what? Forget about soccer/baseball/basketball players. Meeting a celebrity of any kind that you’ve been crushing on since God-knows-when would be literally surreal. I can’t imagine my reaction! And playing it cool like Dorie did (or tried to do) would definitely be out of the question. But then I really understood her trust issues when it came to her relationship with Nate. And her low self esteem, because well, how on Earth could you fathom the fact that your childhood celebrity crush is actually falling for you? Totally understandable!
I must admit that since I’m not really a baseball fan, I found some parts of the book really hard to grasp. Despite that, I think Dorie was the most kickass character in the book, although no one compares to to Lola, who is my favorite character in the series and whose story was my absolute favorite.

A Million Worlds With You by Claudia Gray Book Review

book-review

good objects

Every moment, every day, we are all making something – whether it’s science or art, a relationship or a destiny – building it choice by choice, moment by moment. Our decisions shape other people’s worlds as well as our own. We are all the center of our own universe, and all of us in someone else’s orbit. It’s a paradox, but sometimes paradoxes are where the truth begins.

That was incredible. Continue reading

Holy
Crap.
This book was incredibly badass.
Words cannot describe…
I’m utterly speechless.
Who the heck thought I’d be into novels revolving around assassins, benefactors, gangsters, drug dealers, assassination agencies…. But this book.. Yes, the synopsis appealed to me -a lot. But now that I’ve finished this book, I realized how understated a synopsis can be…
